By means of an integrated space-oriented modelling, site-specific scenarios of measures and strategies of forest utilization in their complex effects on the regional landscape system (ecosystem network plus forest users) under variable environmental and site conditions as well as economic, social and political boundary conditions are measured and evaluated. The scenarios emanate from an increase of weather extremes, which particularly in the model region result in dry periods becoming more frequently, in an increase of strong precipitation as well as storms which reach the forest and landscape endangering point, a continuously proceeding nitrogen eutrophication of the landscape as well as variable market conditions for the raw material wood in the components value timber, industrial wood and energy wood. As a result of the research group optimized, site-specific options for action are derived. These contain elements of the adjustment on the one hand to variable natural and social basic conditions by increase of self adaptiveness, site plasticity and functional diversity of the forests, by improvement of the nutrient retention of the soils, the habitat quality of the landscape for plant and animal species as well as by development of various timber and wood assortments. On the regional scale the forest development concepts derived scientifically from the project are to be implemented practically in forests owned by a non-profit organization. This process will be accomanied by a broad participation of local actors interested in the forest development goals by using a so-called landscape workshop, an action-oriented dialogue between science and the actors ensemble (land owners, forest users, researchers).

Waldkunde-Institut Eberswalde GmbH

BMBF-Verbundprojekte

BMBF Forschung für Nachhaltigkeit (FONA)

Dr. Martin Jenssen

Dr. Peter Elsasser

Dr. Reinhard Klenke

Dr. Thomas Aenis

Kenneth Anders

Lars Fischer

PD Dr. Hans Papen

Prof. Dr. Michael Köhl

Prof. Dr. Uwe Jens Nagel

Rainer Gasche

Wolfgang Vogler

Das Verbundprojekt „Nachhaltige Entwicklung von Waldlandschaften im Nordostdeutschen Tiefland“ (NEWAL-NET) wird vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) im Rahmen der FONA-Initiative gefördert.
