A future bio-economy must be measured against the criteria of sustainability. In terms of this sustainable development of the bio-economy, particularly with regard to an increase in biomass production in tropical and sub-tropical regions, it is of the uttermost importance to close nutrient cycles on a regional scale. The aims of this collaborative project are to address: 1) the usage of organic residues from the ethanol and sugar industry (e.g. presscake, vinasse, bagasse, and residual biomass, such as leaves) as well as from biogas production (digestates); and 2) their effects as fertilisers and soil conditioners to promote plant biomass production. The overall goal of this project is to obtain practice-oriented knowledge for the sustainable usage of these residues to promote plant biomass production and to increase soil fertility by closing nutrient cycles. The potentially reduced need for mineral fertilisers would support the sustainability of long-term agricultural production by closing the nutrient loop using these residues as fertilisers and soil conditioners.

BMBF3 PURESBio

2014 Prinzipien der agrarischen Nutzungssysteme und deren Modellierung

CTBE - Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory

Forschungszentrum Jülich

IFG - Federal Institute of Goiás

Soil National Research Centre of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation

TU Berlin

UFG - Federal University of Goiás

BMBF-Verbundprojekte

Projektträger Jülich (BMBF-Förderung)

Prof. Dr. M.
