Today marks the end of the four-day DAFA conference on agricultural research on climate change. The scientific conference in Potsdam focused on the transformation of the agricultural and food system. Several ZALF scientists and political representatives took part.
ZALF scientist and modeling expert Prof. Dr. Claas Nendel welcomed the participants. Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, and State Secretary Stefan Tidow, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, kicked off a four-day intensive exchange on climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture, land use, animal husbandry and peatland protection.
Prof. Sonoko Bellingrath-Kimura from ZALF gave a keynote speech on how digitalization can contribute to the transformation of agriculture as part of a workshop on transformation research for the BMBS funding line "Agricultural Systems of the Future". In the "DAKIS" consortium, she and her team are developing a digital knowledge and information system to support farmers in integrating environmental protection and resource conservation into their management decisions.
Prof. Frank Ewert, Scientific Director of ZALF, participated in a panel discussion on climate adaptation with a focus on water. ZALF scientists Claudia Bethwell, Jing Yu and Alma Thiesmeier gave presentations on adapted cropping strategies, catch crops and agroforestry systems. In addition, ZALF scientists Carsten Hoffmann, Marcus Schmidt, Roland Baatz and Michael Sommer presented posters on the FAIRagro research data infrastructure, drought research and a climate-friendly plowing technique, partial crumb deepening.
