Sustainability management with ZALF-Values
With the Sustainability Report 2024, ZALF presents the current status of its sustainability management system “ZALF Values". The report contains objectives as well as the key processes and stakeholders. In addition, it clearly demonstrates the progress we have made in recent years on our way to becoming a sustainable research institution.
An environmental management system was introduced at the Müncheberg site back in 2019, for which we held an EMAS certificate from November 2020 to November 2023. The process and achievements are presented in several environmental reports.
However, we realized that the environmental focus of EMAS did not go far enough for ZALF as a research institution with a sustainable approach. For example, the numerous developments at ZALF on social aspects could not be mapped. For this reason, we have developed the holistic sustainability management system ZALF-Values. In addition to our experience from EMAS, ZALF-Values is based on the handout “Sustainability management in non-university research institutions" from the LeNa project (www.nachhaltig-forschen.de).
