Models

Hauptinhalt der Seite

At ZALF a multitude of different models are being developed or used at the various program areas or the research platforms. Below, you will find a selection of models, which have been particularly adapted to HPC-use.

MONICA

MONICA Logo

The acronym MONICA is derived from „MOdel of Nitrogen and Carbon dynamics in Agro-ecosystems”.

MONICA is a dynamic, process-based simulation model which describes transport and bio-chemical turn-over of carbon, nitrogen and water in agro-ecosystems. In daily time steps, the most important processes in soil and plant are modelled mechanistically. They are linked in such way that feed-back relations of the single processes are reproduced as close to nature as possible. MONICA works one dimensionally and represents a space of 1 m2 surface area and 2 m depth.

HERMES2GO

HERMES2GO Logo

Hermes2Go is the re-implementation of HERMES, a model for the simulation of N dynamics in agricultural plant-soil-systems. It simulates soil water and N dynamics as well as crop growth and N uptake by the crop. The model considers processes of evaporation/transpiration, water and nitrate transport in the soil, net N mineralisation, denitrification and crop biomass development and its distribution to crop organs.

SIMPLACE

SIMPLACE is a Modelling Framework developed at the University Bonn and well supported for HPC applications at ZALF.

“The SIMPLACE Framework tries to meet these needs using modular software architecture within standard technologies, which reduces the effort in model development and customization. It includes the flexibility necessary to be customized, used and extended by scientists. The multi threaded high performance architecture enables calibration and simulations at different spatial scales.” (SIMPLACE-Homepage)
