Netiquette for ZALF’s Social Media Channels

We look forward to your contributions! You can use our comment feature to leave comments. Whether you have questions, suggestions, additional information, or ideas about a post, or would like to discuss our topics with others—we’re eager to hear from you!

To ensure we treat one another with respect, we ask that you adhere to the following rules. This is the only way to foster an engaging discussion that adds value for everyone. In the event of violations of these netiquette guidelines or basic legal principles, the editorial team reserves the right not to approve comments, to delete them, or to remove specific passages.

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Comments that are hostile to democracy (e.g., calls to abolish fundamental democratic values, trivializing or supporting authoritarian systems)
  • Discriminatory comments (e.g., racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or anti-Semitic statements)
  • Anti-science comments (e.g., denial of scientifically recognized facts such as climate change, evolution, or the effectiveness of vaccines)
  • Extremist comments (e.g., calls for violence, the dissemination of extremist ideologies, or support for anti-constitutional organizations)
  • Statements that dehumanize others (e.g., blanket denigration of groups or individuals)
  • Personal attacks (e.g., insults, threats, or intimidation)
  • Deliberate disinformation (e.g., spreading demonstrably false claims without sources or with manipulative intent)

The following are welcome…

  • Factual, explanatory comments as well as supplementary information with a clear reference to the respective post.
  • Opinions related to the content of the post—provided they are expressed objectively and respectfully, even if the opinions are controversial.
  • Example: A question like “Does this work?” should be specified so that we know exactly what you’re referring to. Scientific posts often contain multiple, sometimes complex findings.

Name or Nickname

  • Please provide a name or nickname when you comment - this makes communication easier. Readers will appreciate it, as an “@” before your name or nickname allows for direct reference to a comment.

Please be patient and understanding…

  • The approval of comments may be delayed in moderated discussions.
  • Responses are not always immediate, as moderation is time-consuming and is often handled by several editors and experts from various institutes.

Copyright Protection

  • The comments do not reflect the opinion of the institution or the Leibniz Association.
  • Please respect the rights of third parties. Quotations are welcome, but must be identified as such and include links to the original sources.

Rights of Personality

  • We do not tolerate insults, slander, discrimination, or defamation of other users based on their religion, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, origin, or other characteristics.
  • Statements that damage someone’s reputation, threats, suspicions, unverifiable allegations, and the publication of personal or personally identifiable information about others are not permitted.

Advertising

  • Promotional comments, spam, or comments posted by bots will be deleted by the editorial team.
