For the 60th anniversary of the nutrient enrichment trial in Müncheberg, ZALF invited scientific partners as well as former and current employees to a field trip followed by scientific lectures.

About 35 participants followed the invitation of the working group of Dr. Dietmar Barkusky and the BonaRes project group of Prof. Wilfried Hierold. Dietmar Barkusky outlined the 60-year history of the trial, which is one of the most valuable field trials in Germany. The alumni were particularly pleased with the recognition of their many years of work. In his keynote speech, Barkusky discussed the scientific value of the data collected over 60 years. 55 scientific publications from all phases of the experiment testify to the intensive scientific evaluation.

For the BonaRes project, Wilfried Hierold pointed out that the Müncheberg long-term field trial was the first comprehensive data set to be included in the newly established repository for soil research data. In the meantime, more than 600 long-term field trials in Europe have been researched and qualified metadata digitally made available for the repository. 19 international trials have made their full data available for free use. The possibility of comparative analysis of many long-term field trials shows their particular value for new research questions, e.g. in the context of climate change.
