At its meeting on Friday, July 5, the German Council of Science and Humanities decided on an assessment of ZALF's application for a strategic extension. The report on this so-called "Extraordinary Item of Expenditure" was published on July 8. According to the report, the project to establish an Innovation center for Agricultural System Transformation at ZALF is rated as very good overall. The scientific quality is rated as very good, as is the supraregional significance. The project´s structural relevance for the scientific system is even rated as excellent.
The ZALF Executive Board sees the evaluation as a very good starting point for an inter- and transdisciplinary project and the final decision of the Joint Science Conference, which is expected at the end of November.
The report on the perspectives for agricultural and nutritional research in Germany was also adopted at the same meeting. The evaluation process had focused on the year 2023. According to one of the main statements of the report, an important necessity for the further development of agricultural and nutrition research would be to support a more intensive systemic and transdisciplinary transformation research in the future. ZALF's application for a large special status follows this recommendation and precisely addresses these aspects.
