10.09.2020
Due to current circumstances, the first half of PhD Day 2020 was organized in an online-format on 10th September.
The topic of the day was “Many researchers- one vision”: our doctoral candidates and other ZALF-researchers were invited to discuss how their individual research projects complement each other and how they contribute to ZALF's research strategy and narratives.
A key-note presentation by ZALFs scientific director Prof. Dr. Frank Ewert introduced ZALFs general research strategy and gave information on funding opportunities for doctoral candidates wishing to pursue a scientific career. The guest speaker Prof. Dr. Anna Maria Häring (HNEE) elaborated how principles of organic agriculture, such as the tradition of on-farm research and transdisciplinary approaches, could be useful for a transformation of current food systems. She also encouraged ZALFs early career researchers to build competences in communicating with farmers and other stakeholders, which she sees critical for job opportunities also outside research.
In the afternoon, participants had the option to choose between five workshops on ZALFs narraties introduced by five of the narrative speaker: Sonoko-Dorothea Bellingrath-Kimura, Katharina Helming, Bettina Matzdorf, Claas Nendel and Heidi Webber.
Presentations by PhD-researchers and hands-on creative tours will follow on a later date.
