New DFG project granted: Hydrology in biodiversity research

In December 2016 the project „pETchy: Patterns of evapotranspiration changing throughout the year“ was granted as part of the DFG Priority Program 1374 “Biodiversity Exploratories”.

During the next three years scientists of the Institute of Landscape Hydrology and of the Institute of Soil Landscape Research have the opportunity to check an often postulated beneficial effect of high biodiversity: The concept of complementary use of ecological niches postulates that plant stands with high biodiversity can better adapt to non-favourable environmental conditions like drought because of compensation by better adapted species. This will be checked with regard to water use of grassland sites using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
