On May 19, 2016, the Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung (ZALF) e.V. together with agrathaer GmbH and Komturei Lietzen in Märkisch Oderland organized a field day on the occasion of 20 years „On-Farm Experiment Lietzen“, focussing on reduced tillage.

The On-Farm Experiment Lietzen was established in 1996 by employees from ZALF, the Bundesforschungsanstalt für Landwirtschaft in Braunschweig-Völkenrode and Komturei Lietzen. The Research Station at Müncheberg has been of special importance for the On- Farm Experiment Lietzen with regard to the experimental set-up as well as data collection and analysis.

In the morning, talks were given by Dr. Monika Joschko (LBG) and Prof. Dr. Sonoko Bellingrath-Kimura (LSE) among others. In the afternoon members of other institutions such as ATB Potsdam-Bornim, IGZ Großbeeren, FV Humus and GKB presented results from 20 years experimental field study. For the second time, the agrathaer GmbH accompanied the field day in Lietzen and was responsible for the acquisition of grants from the program “Wissenschaft.Praxis.Dialog” of the Edmund Rehwinkel foundation.

The On-Farm Experiment stimulated several projects and research cooperations as well as student projects, especially from the HU Berlin and the HNE Eberswalde. The researchers have in depth analysed the soil conditions at the 74 ha experimental field characterized by sandy dry soils. Until now, the focus of the research has been mainly on the effects of non-inverting tillage on yields, soil biota and also carbon dynamics. In mid-July, conference proceedings will be published with more information and results from the On-Farm Experiment Lietzen.
