On June 3, 2025, the Leibniz Association will once again be hosting its digital event “Book a Scientist.” Anyone interested, whether general public or experts, can book a 25-minute conversation with researchers on various topics. The conversation will take place online via video call.
Dr. Toni Klemm and Josepha Schiller from the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) are offering their topics in the category “People, Nature & Ecosystems”:
Toni Klemm: Real-world laboratory research and soil protection – collaborative, practical, and forward-looking
How can we help agriculture to be better prepared for climate change, operate more sustainably, and protect agricultural soils? Real-world laboratory research helps to develop and test new approaches with partners from agriculture, politics, and society under practical conditions. This is complex and takes a long time, but it has great potential for tackling societal problems such as the climate crisis.
Dr. Toni Klemm is a geographer working in the fields of agriculture and climate change. His focus is on real-world laboratory research and soil protection practices in arable farming.
Josepha Schiller: Use of AI to record agricultural diversity in Brandenburg
For three years,
Josepha Schiller has been investigating the spatial and temporal development of agricultural diversity in Brandenburg between 2011 and 2020. She analyzes crop diversity and landscape diversity using interpretable machine learning methods and spatial analyses. A particular focus is on the use of trustworthy ML approaches in agricultural and environmental sciences.
Josepha Schiller is a doctoral candidate focusing on the application of interpretable artificial intelligence in environmental sciences.
