On 10 September 2025, a workshop on the multimodal integration of remote sensing data and AI methods was held as part of the multidisciplinary KIKompAg (Artificial Intelligence Competence in Agriculture) project to strengthen data competence in agricultural research.
The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Earth Observation Lab at Humboldt University in Berlin. After a welcome and introduction by Prof. Claas Nendel (ZALF), Prof. Patrick Hostert (HU) and Dr Gohar Ghazaryan (ZALF) gave inspiring presentations on the applications and future perspective of remote sensing.
In addition, demonstrations and practical exercises were offered by Dr Benjamin Jakimow (HU), Dr Magdalena Main-Knorn (ZALF) and Kazi Jahidur Rahaman (ZALF). There was great interest and participation both online and on site. The concluding discussion underscored the urgent need to use remote sensing data and AI methods as QGIS tools for farmers.
All data, materials and presentations will be made available as an e-learning platform for a curriculum on agricultural ecosystem analysis using multiple data sources, modelling approaches and freely available data-driven analysis techniques.
