The ZALF scientist Dr. Ahmad Hamidov was part of a German delegation at the INNOWEEK 2023, which took place during 16-20 October 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Dr. Hamidov presented the research cooperation between ZALF and Uzbek institutions. The main aim of the visit was to strengthen collaboration between German and Uzbek scientists. The visit was organized and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in collaboration with the Uzbek Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations (MHESI).
During the event, the German delegation put together one of the largest Exhibition Stands “Research in Germany” with information about research and study opportunities in Germany. The stand was greatly visited and the young scholars showed high interest in learning about the German education system. ZALF along with the Leibniz Association as well as Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) and Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bio-economy e.V. (ATB) organized distributional materials about research opportunities within the Leibniz Research Institutions.
The INNOWEEK 2023 also hosted a two-day German-Uzbek Science Day Conference, at which occasion, Dr. Hamidov presented the BMBF-funded SusWEF project (Sustainable Water-Saving Irrigation Technologies for Achieving Water, Energy and Food Security in the Context of Climate Change in Uzbekistan) and participated in Status Seminar on Bilateral German-Uzbek Research Projects together with SusWEF project partners. Additionally, the German Research Foundation (DFG) organized a workshop entitled “Guiding Uzbek researchers to DFG funding and review procedures”, where Dr. Hamidov also presented his new upcoming DFG-funded RebUz (Sustainability assessment of irrigated agriculture: Rebound effects in semi-arid Uzbekistan) project.
