Researchers from the PB3 CSA group at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) participated in the 3rd International Crop Modelling Symposium (iCROPM2026) conference, themed “Crop Modelling for Agriculture and Food Security under Global Change.” The conference was held in Florence, Italy, from 2 to 4 February 2026.
The group was actively involved in the scientific programme, contributing both oral presentations and poster presentations that showcased ongoing research in crop systems and crop modelling. Beyond presenting their work, PB3 CSA members engaged in lively discussions and networking with crop modellers and scientists from around the world, spanning both junior and pioneering career stages. These exchanges provided valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing and the development of new international connections.
A special highlight of the conference was the session “Juniors Meet Pioneers,” led by ZALF colleagues Ines Astrid Tougma and Xinxin Chen. The session brought together early-career researchers and pioneers with decades of experience in crop modelling in an open panel format. Junior scientists were able to ask questions, discuss career paths, and learn directly from the experiences and perspectives of leading experts in the field. The session was very well received and highlighted the importance of intergenerational dialogue within the crop modelling community.
Overall, the iCROPM2026 conference provided an inspiring platform for scientific exchange and enhanced the international visibility of ZALF’s research activities.
