Research plays a crucial role in societal efforts towards sustainable development. However, how can we recognize and promote this societal responsibility of research?
The BMBF project LeNa Shape developed and applied various tools to facilitate research with societal responsibility. ZALF researchers Lena Pfeifer and Prof. Dr. Katharina Helming have contributed with the design of a novel theoretical framework for systemic research impact assessment (Pfeifer & Helming 2024), and development and implementation of the impact mapping framework (Pfeifer et al. 2024). The latter has led to the ZALF Impact Pathway Explorer, an interactive infographic tool showcasing the collective contribution of ZALF research to ecosystem functions and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The results will be deliberated upon with key actors in the research community during the LeNa Summit on February 27th, 2024.
