Last week, SOLO - Soils for Europe hosted its soil week events for 2026 across 13 partner countries across the EU. At ZALF, on Thursday, an in-house workshop with soil health experts was held to scope out research and innovation needs and actions to improve soil health in Germany.
The participants of the workshop were first introduced to the meta-analysis that identified the set of drivers influencing different metrics of soil health. Then the twelve participants (including the host) formed two focus groups, each focusing on a different driver category, to identify the relevant knowledge gaps and the actions (identified in the preliminary roadmaps by SOLO) required to achieve healthy soil in Germany.
The output of the workshop will be aggregated to provide regional significance in the synthesis research and innovation roadmap for 2026, communicated to the EU soil mission.
