Kakhramon Djumaboev from International Water Management Institute (IWMI)-Central Asia office visited ZALF as guest researcher during 5 November – 7 December 2019 to work with Dr. Ahmad Hamidov in the DFG-funded WEFUz project.
The WEFUz
project (Sustainability assessment of the Water–Energy–Food (WEF) nexus for irrigated
agriculture: Examples from river basins in Uzbekistan) aims to understand how
decisions about the WEF nexus can affect the sustainability of irrigated
agriculture as well as improve long-term food production in Uzbekistan. During
his stay at ZALF, three potential river basins (Amu-Surkhon, Amu-Bukhara,
Amu-Kashkadarya) were identified for in-depth research. Moreover, first
exploratory visit in 2020 to the selected river basin in Uzbekistan were agreed
and a list of potential stakeholders involved in the WEF nexus decisions were
developed. Kakhramon agreed to provide access to WEF-related local publications
and support Dr. Hamidov during his empirical field stay in Uzbekistan.
On 5th
December, Kakhramon gave a presentation titled “Research methodology for
applying the Water–Energy–Food nexus in selected river basins in Uzbekistan”. The
trip was financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and helps to
reinforce cooperation between ZALF and researchers in Uzbekistan.
