Symposium on 'Research for Restoration Impacts in Africa' hosted by GIZ and ZALF

On 21.10.2022 GIZ with the project “Forests4Future” (F4F) and the ZALF working group “Sustainable Land Use in Developing Countries” hosted a symposium on 'Research for Restoration Impacts in Africa' in Bonn to strengthen dialogue and collaboration between research and practice.

Introductory talks by Claudia Mayer (Head of G330), and Joerg Lohmann (F4F) highlighted the need for more partnerships to incorporate science-based results into (global) initiatives such as F4F and the AFR100. Accompanying research was introduced as possible tool by Dr. Katharina Löhr (ZALF). The following talk on Political Ecology in Restoration by Dr. Rodríguez de Francisco (idos institute), provided the basis for presentations of PhD students, introducing their research on restoration in Ethiopia, Madagascar and Togo. Representatives of sciences, policy and practice joined the event allowing for a critical and fruitful exchange. The symposium was linked to the annual status conference of TREES project.
