GFFA 2023 panel discussion

On 21.01.2023 Welthungerhilfe with ZALF and HU Berlin hosted the expert panel “Linking indigenous knowledge with transformation processes of sustainable food systems” at GFFA2023 in Berlin.

A keynote by Prof. J. von Braun kicked-off the debate, followed by expert contributions from academia and practice. Tania E. Martinez-Cruz (Global Hub on Indigenous Peoples‘ Food Systems), Dr. Celine Termote (Alliance Bioversity International-CIAT, Kenya), Collela Madjebi (Global Security Disaster Management Madagascar) and Dr. Fatimata Koné (Welthungerhilfe, Mali) presented best practices and scalability potential.

Talks clearly showed knowledge systems compatibility, making evident need for co-creation of innovations with local communities respecting and fostering indigenous knowledge systems. This requires supportive political action which ensures an equitable representation of indigenous peoples and their knowledge in policy processes at local to global scale. Concluding remarks were given by Asia Hanano (Welthungerhilfe), addressing key outcomes of the panel to policy. The event attracted more than 150 participants and was chaired by Dr. Katharina Löhr from ZALF.
