The scientific community has made its decision: 26 Leibniz researchers will serve on review boards of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) for the next four years. Among them is ZALF scientist Prof. Dr. Steffen Kolb for the field of soil sciences in the review board "Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine". Kolb heads the working group "Microbial Biogeochemistry" at ZALF.
In April and May 2024, the newly elected review boards will begin their work with constituent meetings. The task of the volunteer members is to compare and evaluate the proposals submitted to the DFG in order to identify the most worthy projects within the given financial framework. In doing so, they ensure the professional quality of the review process and ensure that proposals are evaluated according to consistent standards across all programs. Members are assigned to a topic according to their research focus. Several scientifically related fields make up a review board - and thus a meaningful field of comparison for the evaluation.
