Steffen Münch defended his dissertation on "The relevance of the aeolian transport path for the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria on arable fields" at the University of Potsdam (magna cum laude) on 13 December 2021.
He carried out his scientific work in the interdisciplinary project "SOARiAL" - Spread of antibiotic resistance in an agrarian landscape", which was funded by the Leibniz Competition Fund (SAW) from 2017-2020. During this time, Steffen Münch investigated the particle-bounded transport of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from poultry manure along the process chain "fertiliser application - soil tillage - dust emissions". His work included both experimental field studies and targeted experiments on the drivers of dust-bound bacterial emissions in the ZALF wind tunnel. The dissertation was supervised by Dr. Roger Funk and Prof. Dr Michael Sommer (Working Group „Landscape Pedology“).
