A new podcast format has been launched at ZALF: Soil Hydrology Prediction delves into the details of soil science, hydrology and modelling water and energy cycles in environment. It is hosted by Dr Roland Baatz, ZALF researcher in the field of landscape modelling.

Host Roland Baatz will dive into a variety of topics, from the minute details of soil processes to the expansive dynamics of water systems, and the complex interactions within the energy cycle and ecosystems. The podcast will be enriched by interviews with leading experts in these fields.

The content of the podcast is tailored to professionals and students of these sciences, but also to anyone interested in following the latest scientific debates.

For the first episode, Roland Baatz invited Jasper Vrugt, an expert in the simulation of hydrological processes. In science, computer models are commonly used in order to predict  weather, climate or water-related phenomena, such as floods. These models help to better understand the impact of these phenomena on the environment. Jasper Vrugt gives an insight into how these simulations work and how they can be optimized using the latest techniques.
