Towards Pesticide Free Agriculture

From 2nd to 3rd June, the conference "Towards Pesticide Free Agriculture" was held in Dijon. The conference was organized by the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). Several ZALF scientists were involved. The event partners also include the research alliance "ERA Pesticide free", a joint initiative of 34 European research institutions, including INRAE and ZALF. The recordings from the conference, as well as presentations by the keynote speakers, the thematic sessions and posters have now been published on the conference website.

The conference focused on the question of what research is needed to achieve the pesticide reduction targets set out in the European Green Deal. Prof. Frank Ewert, scientific director of ZALF, participated in a panel discussion. ZALF scientist Dr. José Luis Vicente Vicente spoke about characterizing pesticide-free farms in community-based agriculture as part of a session on the tansformation of the agri-food system. Dr. Kathrin Grahmann explained the role of diversification in reducing chemical pesticides in a session on cropping systems, using the patchCROP landscape laboratory as an example.
