The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) participates in the Leibniz Research Network "Knowledge for Sustainable Development". Together with other institutions of the Leibniz Association and external partners, ZALF contributes to the generation of the scientific knowledge needed for the transformation towards a sustainable society. To address global challenges such as climate change, food security, resource scarcity and biodiversity loss, ZALF develops research approaches for sustainable agriculture of the future integrated in a landscape context.

The work of the research institutions participating in the network contributes to developing solutions for greater sustainability in the areas of climate, environment and biodiversity, nutrition and social justice, and to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2015. Since the topic of sustainability in its complexity needs to be addressed from different research perspectives, the network promotes interdisciplinary cooperation between the participating institutions and pools their research competencies. Furthermore, it is intended to establish the transfer into practice, economy and politics. Events such as synthesis workshops, conferences, summer schools and future dialogues are planned.

From the Leibniz Association, the ARL - Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association, the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO), the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) are participating in the network.
