On June 15/16th, the FAIRagro consortium invited members of its international Community Advisory Board (CAB) to Berlin to discuss project developments to date and strategically prepare for the second funding phase (starting in 2028). Discussions focused on progress achieved, which is set to be presented at an interim report symposium hosted by the DFG in July, as well as prospects for further developing community, service, and support offerings.
The eight CAB members in attendance offered numerous recommendations regarding the further development and embedding of FAIR practices within the agricultural sciences: Emily Clark (EMBL-EBI) shared her experiences in animal research, Anne-Françoise Adam-Blondon (INRAE) contributed perspectives from ELIXIR, and Bernd Rauch (IESE) provided valuable insights into the work of the Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS) — all with an eye toward potential development opportunities for FAIRagro.
There was a consensus among all participants regarding FAIRagro’s importance as a vital link between research data management and the agricultural science community. Moving forward, the scientific added value and tangible impact of FAIRagro should be made even more visible through concrete use cases and success stories.
ZALF coordinates and shapes the FAIRagro project, a consortium of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), which has been funded by the DFG since 2023. Prof. Frank Ewert serves as the spokesperson for FAIRagro.
