The Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) organized its 9th Global Workshop at Columbia University this week. AgMIP is a collaborative network of scientists and stakeholders who work to advance the next generation of agricultural modeling to improve global food security and agricultural system resilience.
Madina Diancoumba, a scientist in CSA was a panelists in the keynote opening panel around "Improving Models and Integrated Assessments". Focusing on systems of West Africa, she emphasized the need of adapting current models, which have largely been developed elsewhere, to that context. She suggested 5 key action points: improving models; capacity building; research partnerships; FAIR data principles; and the use of models in co-design.
Other CSA scientists, Yean-Uk Kim and Chenzhi Wang, presented on methods to assess risks in cropping systems and on a proposed study to assess risk to cropping in SSA for the global modelling team, respectively.
