Dr. Custodio Efraim Matavel was awarded the Hermann Eiselen Science Prize 2024 for his outstanding doctoral research entitled 'Integrating more efficient renewable energy technologies into food systems in Central Mozambique: implications to food and nutrition security'.
He completed this research while working at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and pursuing his PhD at Humboldt University in Berlin.
The award was presented on 11th of September 2024 at the annual Tropentag conference in Vienna, an international gathering dedicated to interdisciplinary research on agricultural sustainability, rural development, and natural resource management in tropical and subtropical regions.
The Hermann Eiselen Science Prize, presented every two years by the fiat panis foundation, honors exceptional dissertations that tackle pressing global issues such as hunger and malnutrition in food-insecure countries. Dr. Matavel’s innovative work on using renewable energy technologies to improve food security in Central Mozambique was recognized as one of this year’s most impactful contributions.
