In the BonaRes SIGNAL project, emphasis was placed on well-structured data management agreed with all project partners right from the start.

Early on in the project, for example, a uniform code was bindingly defined for the sites and methods used. This has made it possible to synthesize results across subproject boundaries in addition to individual results. Working with standardized indicators for ecosystem services has enabled new possibilities for evaluation. All data needed for the evaluation have already been published during the evaluation. The published study (https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-023-00680-1) impressively proves that, especially in large collaborative projects, results of social relevance can emerge and have a high impact when data are FAIR and evaluated collaboratively.
