Research Platform "Data"

Successful agricultural landscape research requires the generation, provisioning and analysis of large amounts of landscape data. Innovative developments in other research areas with respect to the collection of spatial data (e.g. proximal and remote sensing) and the analysis and processing of large datasets (e.g. big data approaches) also offer excellent opportunities for the targeted use of extensive datasets in agricultural landscape research and their integration into respective research programmes. ZALF research activities rely on a wide range of biophysical and socio-economic data with differing structural, spatial and temporal characteristics, particularly in Research Areas 1 and 2. The targeted combination of this data and its analysis and availability for integrated landscape research require the installation of a separate organisational unit – the Research Platform "Data".

In addition to the methodological topics, research activities in the Research Platform are mainly linked to two UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG; UN 2015), which are also addressed in the German Sustainable Development Strategy (2016): Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Climate Action (SDG 13).
