ZALF operates a HPC which is at every ZALF scientists disposal 24/7. The working group MAS administers the HPC and works continuously on improving its end-user usability via special interfaces.
Support and consulting for software development
The working group MAS offers technical support to the working groups within ZALF regarding software development questions. Within the borders set by the ZALF modelling strategy, MAS will offer software development services. Besides that, the goal is to capture possibilities to better adapt existing software to the ZALF model and simulation infrastructure in order to harvest synergistic effects in the future.

Support for porting models to HPC
The service area supports ZALF scientists in the use of models on the ZALF HPC. The support starts at the parallelization of existing software and ends at the its execution on the HPC.
Publication of models and source code
The working group MAS helps with the publication or archiving of models, particularly the models source code at suitable platforms. Generally, the research platform “Data & Simulation” follows an Open-Source approach and thus tries to release models and their source code to the scientific community publicly and free of charge. If the boundary conditions prohibit that, the service area will help to find suitable solutions.
Regardless of a models source code, support can be given for archiving it, maintaining the long-term operability or the reproducibility of model results. For the later ones the service area utilizes container solutions like
Docker or
Singularity.
