Research Area 2 "Land Use and Governance"

Hauptinhalt der Seite

How can we sustainably develop and shape intensively used agricultural landscapes?

The focus of this Research Area lies on the investigation of land use practices and their interactions with associated ecosystem services and biodiversity. These interactions are not only studied for agriculturally managed crop- and grasslands, but also in the context of adjacent ecosystems such as forests and waterbodies. It is the aim to use research results to support the site-adapted management of agricultural landscapes under the impact of climate change and in different socio-economic and socio-cultural contexts. This adapted management must be supported by stakeholders and institutionally promoted. Research on the interactions, the development of suitable indicators for the valorisation of the services provided by agricultural landscapes and embedded ecosystems, the development of suitable governance approaches as well as the dissemination of institutional, technological and management-related innovations are additional topics of research in this Research Area.
