ZALF receives the compatibility certificate for its family friendly HR policies for the fifth time

The Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) was awarded the 26th berufundfamilie certificate for its family- and life-phase-conscious personnel policy. ZALF has been conducting the berufundfamilie audit since 2011. The certificate was awarded to ZALF in recognition of its long-standing commitment to work-life balance. Dr. Marion Tauschke, equal opportunity officer and project manager for berufundfamilie®, accepted the award on behalf of ZALF for the fifth time.

The certificate was presented by Prof. Dr. Dr. Helmut Schneider, Certification Officer of the Board of Trustees of berufundfamilie, and Oliver Schmitz, Managing Director of berufund-familie Service GmbH.

ZALF is one of a total of 306 organizations that have been awarded the certificate of the family and career audit "berufundfamilie" or "audit familiengerechte hochschule" this year. The awarding of the seal of approval is preceded by a structured audit process lasting sev-eral months in which solutions for a better balance between career, family and private life are (further) developed and family- and life-phase-conscious measures are anchored in the organizational culture.

ZALF employees benefit from the work-life balance measures. In addition to opportunities for mobile working, these include support in finding childcare, external telephone counselling for employees and their families, and a family-friendly tenure-track procedure to promote the careers of young scientists. These tools are complemented by company measures for preventive health care and reintegration after longterm illness, as well as the provision of a mobile nursery and a quiet room. It is planned to introduce further measures to promote a better work-life balance. To this end, ZALF's Equal Opportunities Officer, Marion Tauschke, employees with children and caregiving responsibilities, members of the Works Council, the Human Resources Department, representatives of the junior scientists, and Andrea Wagner as an auditor from berufundfamilie Service GmbH have developed an action program that has been signed by the Executive Board and can be viewed by employees on the Intranet in the Equality and Diversity section.

The aim of the action program is, among other things, to improve communication and transparency with regard to offers that promote compatibility and to initiate tailor-made of-fers for a family- and life-phase-conscious organization of working life, starting with the onboarding process. In addition, childcare and family-friendly accommodation, for example in the ZALF Scientific Meeting Center, are being examined.

"ZALF now has more than 500 employees in research and administration with very different backgrounds, needs and goals. Our goal is to support all employees in the best possible way and provide them with opportunities to balance their professional and personal interests. We are pleased to have received our fifth certificate as a milestone in a continuous innovation process at ZALF," says Marion Tauschke.

About the berufundfamilie audit:

The berufundfamilie Service GmbH is a service provider and think tank in the field of compat-ibility of career, family and private life. It successfully supports companies, institutions and universities in the implementation of a sustainable personnel policy that is aware of family and life phases and in the design of family-friendly working, research and study conditions. Its central service is the audit berufundfamilie, which was initiated by the non-profit Hertie Foundation. The audit is a strategic management tool that employers can use to make their human resources policies more family-friendly and life-cycle-conscious and to enhance their attractiveness as employers. Since 1998, nearly 2,000 organizations have received the audit certificate. The Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Lisa Paus MdB, is the patron of audit berufundfamilie and audit familienfreundliche hochschule.
