The first European Soil Mission Week took place in Madrid from November 21–23, 2023 organised by the Joint Research Center - EU Soil Observatory (EUSO), the EU-funded PREPSOILProject, and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) in support of the EU Mission "A Soil Deal for Europe
Following an examination of soil demands from 20 regions of agriculture, forestry, natural resources, urbanization, industry, and mixed land uses throughout the typical European regions, Prof. Dr. Katharina Helming presented soil needs and drivers of change across land use types. The findings from these assessments of soil needs were turned into posters and a booklet by Dr. Keerthi Bandru and Lukas Bayer.
Following Soil Week, the PREPSOIL project consortium met and the initiative's next steps were mapped out.
