A group of ZALF scientists led by Prof. Dr. Bettina Matzdorf traveled to China as part of the German-Chinese research project "SinoPES" to exchange perspectives on the governance of ecosystem services and to continue ZALF's exchange with Chinese partners.
From May 12 to 26, researchers of the ZALF working group "Governance of Ecosystem Services" as well as researchers of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus - Senftenberg and the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) traveled to China as part of the SinoPES project. The SinoPES project is a joint project of ZALF and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) and aims at developing coordinated, efficient and sustainable governance and financing mechanisms for ecosystem services in the context of Europe and China.
Throughout the visit, ZALF researchers exchanged views with colleagues from IGSNRR, Zhejiang University, Hohai University and Yunnan University on the latest developments in the field of ecosystem service valorization and governance. In addition, several field trips were organized to allow the delegation to explore the implementation of conservation projects on the ground in China, including overgrazing sites in Inner Mongolia and watershed schemes in Hangzhou, China.
ZALF scientists look forward to welcoming the Chinese partners to the LANDSCAPE Conference 2024 in Berlin from September 17-19.
