On June 11 and 12, ZALF scientists met with members of the German Bundestag as part of the "Leibniz im Bundestag" event. During the one-hour one-on-one meetings, the MPs learned about agrivoltaics, developments on the agricultural land market, and the expansion of organic farming.

Luise Maria Meißner of the Working Group on Agricultural Economics and Ecosystem Services discussed developments in the agricultural land market with Sylvia Lehmann of the SPD and Alexander Engelhard of the CDU/CSU.

How can the political goal of increasing the share of organic farming to 30% be achieved with stable and high yields, and what contribution can research make? Moritz Reckling, head of the working group on resource-efficient cropping systems, addressed this question in a meeting with Isabel Mackensen-Geis of the SPD.

Felix Zoll and Alexandra Doernberg from the SynAgri-PV project talked with Alexander Engelhardt from the CDU/CSU and Isabel Mackensen-Greis from the SPD about the diffusion of agrivoltaics. In particular, the question of how to increase social acceptance of solar systems was an important topic of discussion. "We think it is important that we can present current results and contribute to the transfer of knowledge between politics and science. The topic of acceptance is essential, especially in the energy transition," said Alexandra Doernberg. Agri-PV was one of the most requested topics at this year's “Leibniz im Bundestag”.

The event has been held annually since 2008. Scientists from the Leibniz Association meet with members of the German Bundestag for an hour to discuss current research findings. The 16th year of the event series saw a record number of participants. The Leibniz Association offered 569 topics, 12 of which came from ZALF. This year, the delegates were particularly interested in alternative fuels such as eFuels and hydrogen as well as carbon capture and utilization. Other important topics were the EU Chips legislation and pension policy.
