The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) combine traditional fieldwork with modern data collection.
As part of a mapping course in the Fichtelgebirge region, students collect soil profiles and publish them via the BonaRes profile database developed by ZALF – in accordance with FAIR principles. In addition to traditional fieldwork, the project also imparts practical knowledge about data management and publication. The positive feedback shows that combining fieldwork with digital research and data publication motivates and strengthens methodological skills. The project results will be presented at the DBG Conference 2025 with the aim of establishing a Germany-wide networked system of digital soil data.
