Funding PhD students and post-docs at ZALF

PhD candidates usually write their PhD thesis at ZALF as part in research projects.

In addition, PhD students and post-docs can receive financial support from ZALF in the form of

  • Follow-up funding (for up to 6 months after completion of a PhD) or
  • Interim funding for post-docs (2 x 6 months in order to prepare an application for financing).

For detailed information about the funding guidelines, please contact your Head of Institute.

agrathaer, a spin-off company from ZALF, also provides early career researchers with advice about types and methods of funding. This includes scouting for suitable support programmes and individual support in applying for projects and drawing up financial plans. On request, transfer-oriented project applications can be prepared and submitted via agrathaer.

It goes without saying that early career researchers can also make use of general funding opportunities. Here are just a few examples:

  • DAAD(German Academic Exchange Service), e.g. for trips to conferences, for research stays abroad or for international PhD students
  • BRAIN – Brandenburg Research Academy and International Network for international post-docs
  • Humboldt Research Fellowshipsfor Postdoctoral Researchers
