History
Today's Institute of Landscape Systems Analysis of ZALF is one of the few research facilities in Germany dealing with the systems analysis of man-environment interactions.
According to our knowledge, it is the only institute which has devoted its specific work to landscape systems analysis, and more precisely, to studying system-analytical questions in the context of agricultural landscapes.
The Institute was founded in 1992 as one of seven ZALF institutes, named then
"Institute of Ecosystem and Process Modelling".
As ZALF was being shaped towards a modern facility of basic and application-oriented landscape research, the Institute's profile was sharpened and partly changed from process-biased ecosystem modelling to complex landscape systems analysis.
This is reflected by the Institute's renaming , i.e.
"Institute of Landscape Modelling" in 1996, and
"Institute of Landscape Systems Analysis" in 1999.
