The Institute of Landscape Systems Analysis of ZALF is one of the few research institutions in Germany dealing with the systems analysis of complex Man-Environment relationships, and it is the only institute in this country devoted specifically to studying questions of systems analysis in the context of agricultural landscapes. The research work is focussed on the these aspects:
How do landscapes function?
Which are the methods and models capable of analysing and describing the influence of changes in land use and climate on the ecosystem functions?
How should models look like which will allow  to investigate the long-term impacts of land-use and climate changes on the ecosystem in the context of landscapes?
