Research objectives
The Institute of Landscape Systems Research is focussing its work within the ZALF context on questions related to the analysis and evaluation of chains of complex interaction between anthropogenically influenced landscape use and the multiple landscape functions.
Innovative methods and models are devised as one prerequisite for better analysing, understanding and assessing landscape potentials, as well as the complex spatio-temporal implications of land use and climate changes as basis for the derivation of appropriate action strategies aiming at sustainable
landscape development.

Work on individual research themes is normally done in interdisciplinary manner in the frame of closely connected  thematic working groups.

The research priorities include works on
  • the development of innovative methods and tools for landscape analysis and impact assessment,
  • the development and use of methods for space-related empirical data analysis,
  • the mathematical and scientific modelling, as well as computer simulation.
Other priorities refer to
  • the elaboration of fundamentals and prototypes of computer-aided decision support systems for agriculture and forestry, as well as for a sustainable landscape use at regional level,
  • the development of suitable methods for model aggregation and integration, as well as  for the improvement of remote sensing methods for landscape monitoring.
