Two major objectives are intended. The first is to provide a comprehensive understanding of factors affecting the regional hydrologic cycle under different land-use scenarios. Specific to this objective, which would be the focus in the first 12 months of the award (Phase I), are the quantification of&#58; </span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB"><a>(i) the impact of land-use change on the hydroclimatological variables; </a></span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">(ii) the relative contributions of oceanic and internal recycling to regional precipitation under the imposed land use scenarios; and </span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">(iii) the impact of extreme land-use change on moisture recycling within the Niger Basin.</span><span class="MsoCommentReference"><span lang="EN-GB" style="line-height&#58;150%;font-size&#58;8pt;"><span>&#160;</span></span></span><span lang="EN-GB"></span></p> <div><span lang="EN-GB">The second is to carry out the regional analysis of climate change impact on the Niger Basin hydrology.
